Out in their wide-open field and horse arena, surrounded by sunshine, dirt, horses, dogs, and a whole lot of heart, I had the joy of documenting this cowboy crew doing what they love most: being together, right at home.
Corrie and Josh live in Hamilton, Montana, where they run a horse training business and raise their boys, Eli and Tripp. They were the winners of my spring family session giveaway with Keep Candid, and from the second I arrived, I knew this was going to be a session to remember. It was such an honor to meet them, and I immediately felt welcomed into their world—full of grit, joy, and the kind of love that runs deep.
A Lifestyle Session with Cowboy Heart
This session was more relaxed, candid, and documentary in feel. My goal was to simply capture a slice of their everyday life—the kind of moments that might not always feel camera-worthy in the moment, but that become treasured memories later on.
Tripp, their two-year-old, was absolutely adorable with his little rope in hand, trying to mimic everything his big brother and dad were doing. He was all cowboy, all heart. And Eli, who’s ten, impressed me beyond words with his riding skills. Watching him on horseback—confident, calm, and completely in his element—was honestly inspiring. It’s so clear how much time and love this family has poured into their way of life, and how naturally it’s being passed down to the next generation.
Even their dog, Red Pepper, got in on the fun. Sweet and full of personality, he followed us around the whole time, weaving in and out of the action like he was just another sibling. (And, let’s be honest, he kind of is.)
The Beauty of At-Home Sessions
Sessions like this remind me why I love lifestyle family photography so much—because it’s not just about looking nice and smiling at the camera. It’s about being seen for who you are. It’s about honoring the everyday things that make your life yours.
For the Keimigs, that meant dusty boots and roping practice, riding through the arena, and cuddles on the fence line. It meant smiles that weren’t forced, because they were having a genuinely good time doing something they love, together. And for me, it meant the chance to witness and preserve a part of their legacy—the kind that will mean everything to them (and to their kids) in the years to come.
As a Montana family photographer, it’s always my goal to create galleries that feel authentic and personal. Whether that means chasing your toddlers through the backyard, cooking pancakes in your kitchen, or saddling up the horses in your own arena—I’m here for it. And this session with the Keimigs was a perfect example of why that matters.
For Families Who Want More Than a Pretty Picture
If you’ve ever felt like traditional family photos aren’t quite your style—like maybe your best moments don’t happen in matching outfits on a blanket in a park—I want you to know that you have options. Lifestyle sessions are for the families who want to capture real life. The hugs. The grit. The way your two-year-old loops a rope over his shoulder like he’s been doing it forever. The way your ten-year-old smiles when his horse does exactly what he asked. The way your dog sneaks into every frame because she’s always by your side.
Those are the stories I love to tell.
