There’s something extra special about photographing another photographer—especially when it’s someone who has become a friend. This spring, I had the absolute joy of photographing Morgan and her two sweet kids, Ella and Parker, during a Mother’s Day mini-session in Missoula, Montana. And let me just say—this session was everything I love about motherhood photography: heartfelt, simple, and full of love.
Morgan and I actually became friends online a few years ago through the photography world. She’s a fellow Missoula-based photographer, and like so many creatives, we connected over shared stories, inspiration, and the unique experience of running a photography business. We’d been cheering each other on from behind screens for years, and met at a gathering earlier this spring for the first time.
When Morgan told me she didn’t have any professional photos with her two kids, I knew we had to fix that. As photographers, we’re often behind the camera documenting everyone else’s lives—but it’s just as important to step in front of it once in a while, especially with the ones we love most.
This session came together the week before Mother’s Day, which made it all the more meaningful. It felt like the perfect time to pause and celebrate the connection between Morgan and her little ones—something I believe every mama deserves to see and remember.
For these mini-sessions, I created a clean, timeless setup that put the focus right where it belonged—on the love between a mother and her children. I used a simple white backdrop accented with soft, spring florals to add just a touch of color and texture. It created a beautiful contrast with the golden tones of Morgan’s dress and the soft, candid moments that unfolded naturally throughout the session.
Morgan chose one of the mustard-colored dresses from my client closet, and she looked absolutely stunning. That warm golden tone popped beautifully against the white backdrop and made the entire session feel cozy and cohesive.
The client closet is something I offer all of my clients—whether you’re booking a full-length family session or a short and sweet mini like this one. It’s a curated selection of dresses and outfits that are designed to photograph beautifully, flatter a variety of body types, and take the stress out of choosing what to wear.
I love being able to offer this kind of styling support to the busy mamas who step in front of my camera. You’re already juggling so much—let me help make one part of the process feel a little easier (and a lot prettier!).
Ella and Parker were an absolute dream to photograph. Ella was gentle and observant, the kind of big sister who clearly adores her mama and her little brother. Parker brought all the toddler charm, with big expressions and curious energy that made the session so fun and unpredictable in the best way.
Watching Morgan with her kids was a reminder of why I love this work. There’s a tenderness and strength in motherhood that I’ll never stop being inspired by. You could see it in the way she scooped Parker up mid-giggle, or how she brushed Ella’s hair back during a quiet moment between shots. These little gestures—the ones we so often overlook in the busyness of everyday life—are exactly what I hope to preserve in motherhood photos.
As a Missoula motherhood photographer, I believe every mama deserves to have photos that capture the love, chaos, and beauty of this season. These aren’t just pictures—they’re proof. Proof that you were there, holding them close. That you made them laugh. That they looked at you like you were their whole world—because you are.
Whether you’re usually the one behind the camera or you simply haven’t had a chance to slow down and document this chapter, I’d love to encourage you to make the time. Sessions like this one with Morgan, Ella, and Parker remind me how quickly the years fly by—and how important it is to have something to hold onto.
I’m so grateful to have such kind, talented photography friends here in Missoula who truly feel like co-workers in the best sense of the word. This photographer community is something that I truly cherish and Morgan is a huge part of that!
