7 Beautiful Parks for Family Photos in the Winston-Salem Area

Some of my favorite sessions don’t happen in dramatic locations or faraway places. They happen in parks people drive past every day. There’s something about familiar spaces that makes people settle in a little more.

As a Winston-Salem family photographer, I’ve spent a lot of time exploring different parks around the area. Some are wide open and golden in the evening light. Long Creek Park feels different from Miller Park in the best way. It’s quieter. More tucked away. There’s a stillness here that makes it perfect for slower-paced sessions, especially for families who want something that feels a little more private.

The greenery tends to be lush in the warmer months, and the trails give us a lot of options to move around without feeling like we’re repeating the same backdrop. It’s one of those places where kids can wander a little, and those in-between moments end up being the ones you keep. The fields seem endless and the seasonal flowers add a sweet backdrop.

Stuart & Emma Thomas Memorial Trail: A Hidden Gem for Family Photos

Stuart & Emma Thomas Memorial Trail is one of those spots that people don’t always think of right away, which makes it even better.

The trail itself is simple, but the surrounding landscape has this soft, natural feel that photographs beautifully. It’s especially nice in the early evening when the light starts to dip lower and everything takes on that warmer tone.

It’s more structured, more refined. The architecture and landscaping give it a timeless quality that works really well for families who want something a little more polished while still being outdoors.

Bethabara Park: History and Nature Together

Historic Bethabara Park is one of my favorite places when families want a mix of nature and something a little more meaningful.

C G Hill Memorial Park is one of those parks that doesn’t try too hard.

It’s simple. Peaceful. A good option for families who want something low-key and easy.

There’s enough greenery and open space to create a beautiful backdrop, and it tends to be less crowded than some of the more well-known spots. That alone can make a big difference, especially for families with younger kids.
